Challenge
A Rockbank homeowner wanted an insulated patio that worked seamlessly with a fully enclosed room, complete with electrical upgrades and new flooring. The structure needed to remain stable through seasonal temperature changes, allow natural light without overheating, and integrate cleanly with the home’s existing architecture. Achieving this required precise material selection, careful structural planning, and a layout that supported both open and enclosed zones within the same footprint.
Solution
Sam Outdoor Living developed a custom system that combined an insulated patio roof, a fully framed enclosure, modern glazing elements, and a new raised floor structure. The patio section was built with 50mm Cooldek® panels in Monument for insulation and thermal control. A single clear EZ-Glaze sheet was added to introduce natural light while maintaining weather protection. Structural support relied on two 150x150mm aluminum posts paired with a 140x50mm steel ProBeam. The design was finished with a 200mm Diamond Gutter to manage water flow efficiently and maintain a clean roofline.

Inside the enclosure, the team installed insulated wall panels in Monument with a 50mm core to improve temperature stability. A mix of glazing elements was introduced, including a full-size stacker sliding door for wide access, a glass hinge door for daily use, and a 1000x1500mm sliding window for ventilation. All units used single-glazed glass to balance weight, cost efficiency, and clarity.

The flooring system began with a 90x45mm H3 treated pine frame, selected for durability and resistance to moisture. A YellowTongue base sheet provided structural rigidity and sound absorption. The surface was finished with grey oak-style timber flooring to add visual warmth and create a clean indoor feel. Electrical work included two downlights strategically placed under the patio for soft illumination and two spotlights positioned to highlight key areas of the enclosed space. All components were wired to accommodate future additions such as fans or heating units.
Results
The completed project produced a cohesive and functional outdoor-to-indoor transition area that performs reliably in all seasons. The insulated patio offers shade and thermal regulation, while the enclosed section functions as an extension of the home. The glazing elements bring in natural light and offer flexible access points, and the newly built floor delivers stability and a polished interior finish. Our client can now enjoys a versatile space that is suited for relaxing, entertaining guests, or serving as a secondary living area. The structure’s precision engineering and modern material selection ensure durability, low maintenance, and a lasting improvement to the property’s overall value.
