Precision Patio Build Elevates Everyday Living

Challenge

In July 2025, a Mulgrave homeowner approached Sam Outdoor Living to upgrade their underused backyard into a modern space fit for both everyday relaxation and weekend entertaining. Their goal was clear: a visually clean design that wouldn’t buckle under Victoria’s shifting weather, with enough technical integrity to remain low-maintenance over the long haul.

Solutions

After an on-site assessment, our team designed a 4.2 by 3.2 metre patio structure using Stratco's premium Cooldek® system. The build centered around 50mm insulated Cooldek® panels, which provide excellent thermal performance, reducing heat transfer on warmer days while maintaining warmth in the cooler months. To ensure structural rigidity, we installed 140x50mm Probeam beams paired with robust 150x150mm aluminum posts, offering both strength and sleek visual framing.

Rainwater management was addressed using a 200mm edge gutter system. We also integrated four downlights into the patio ceiling, giving the space subtle but effective night-time functionality. Every component was chosen for durability, visual consistency, and resistance to corrosion or warping.

Result

Since completion, the client has reported daily use of the new patio area, noting how the insulated panels and lighting have expanded the usability of their backyard well beyond daylight hours or seasonal limits. The final result isn’t just a patio, it’s a seamless extension of their home that adds value, comfort, and functionality with minimal upkeep.
