Insulated Patio Using Straco & Palram Materials

Challenge

A homeowner in Jacana sought to transform their outdoor space into a stylish, functional area that could be used year-round. With a total of 35 square meters to cover, they wanted a design that balanced aesthetics with durability, ensuring it could withstand diverse weather conditions while remaining low maintenance. They envisioned a modern outdoor retreat that would serve as a comfortable space for relaxation and entertainment, no matter the season. Understanding these needs, Sam Outdoor Living set out to create a solution that seamlessly combined quality materials with expert craftsmanship.

Solutions

To meet these requirements, Sam Outdoor Living proposed a custom-built 3.5m x 9.9m flat Cooldek® patio. The choice of materials played a crucial role in ensuring both longevity and performance. The project incorporated high-quality products from Stratco and Palram, two industry-leading manufacturers known for their innovation in outdoor structures.

Stratco's Cooldek® Panels, used in a 50mm thickness, provided superior insulation, helping to regulate temperature and create a comfortable outdoor space throughout the seasons. These insulated panels reduced heat transfer, ensuring the patio remained cool during summer while offering protection from cold weather and rain. The structure was reinforced with 150x150mm aluminum posts and Probeam 140x50mm beams, ensuring strength and stability while maintaining a sleek, modern profile. Edge gutters measuring 200mm were installed to efficiently manage rainwater runoff, preventing water accumulation and extending the life of the patio.

To enhance functionality and ambiance, the project incorporated advanced features such as eight strategically placed downlights, offering ample illumination for evening gatherings. Two smart ceiling fans were installed, providing adjustable airflow to keep the space comfortable in warmer months.

Results

Palram's high-performance materials further elevated the design. The patio included Ez-glaze, a premium polycarbonate roofing solution known for its clarity, strength, and UV resistance. This material allowed natural light to filter through while blocking harmful UV rays, ensuring a bright yet protected outdoor setting. Additionally, Sunlite® 10 TwinWall polycarbonate panels, with a 10mm thickness, were used to add an extra layer of durability and insulation, enhancing energy efficiency and creating a cozy atmosphere. Since the project's completion, the client has enjoyed a versatile outdoor living space that seamlessly blends style and practicality.
