Challenge

Sam Outdoor Living was approached in January 2025 by a homeowner in VIC 3978 with a clear vision—an outdoor space that blended durability with aesthetics, creating a stylish and functional retreat for year-round use. The challenge was to design a structure that complemented the existing home while offering lasting protection and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Solution

To meet the homeowner’s vision for a stylish yet durable outdoor space, Sam Outdoor Living designed and installed a custom flat Colorbond® patio measuring 3.3m by 2.8m. The structure was carefully planned to complement the existing home while ensuring year-round comfort and protection from the elements.

Key to the design was the selection of premium materials from Lysaght and Stratco, chosen for their durability, low maintenance, and sleek aesthetic. The patio featured Flatdek roofing sheets (310mm), providing a clean, modern finish with excellent structural integrity. To enhance natural lighting while maintaining weather protection, Wonder Glass panels (310mm) were incorporated, allowing sunlight to filter through without compromising comfort.

For stability and longevity, the structure was supported by 150x150mm aluminum posts, ensuring a strong foundation resistant to corrosion and wear. Probeam supports (140x50mm) reinforced the patio’s framework, adding extra durability to withstand varying weather conditions. An edge gutter (200mm) was installed to ensure efficient water drainage, preventing pooling and enhancing the overall functionality of the space.

Since completion, the transformation has exceeded expectations. The homeowners now have a space that seamlessly extends their living area, offering a perfect setting for both relaxation and entertaining. The low-maintenance materials ensure lasting quality, and the refined design enhances the property’s overall appeal.
