Gable Colorbond® Patio Installation In Cairnlea

Sam Outdoor Living was engaged to upgrade an outdoor area in Cairnlea, VIC with a practical and visually clean patio structure that could support both entertaining and everyday relaxation. The client wanted a covered space that felt open, durable, and well-integrated with the existing home, without creating a heavy or enclosed look.

Challenge

The main challenge was designing a patio that could provide strong weather protection while still allowing natural light into the area below. A standard flat roof would have offered coverage, but the client wanted a more defined architectural shape. The gable roof design was selected because it creates extra height through the centre of the structure, improves the sense of openness, and gives the patio a more finished look from both inside and outside the home.

Solutions

Sam Outdoor Living proposed a custom 8m x 4m gable Colorbond® patio, giving the client approximately 32 square metres of covered outdoor space. The roof was built using Colorbond® Trimdek sheets, chosen for their durability, clean profile, and suitability for Australian outdoor structures. The gable form helped create a brighter, more spacious feel while maintaining reliable protection from sun and rain.

For structural support, the patio was built with 150mm x 150mm aluminium posts and Probeam 140mm x 50mm beams. This combination provided a strong frame while keeping the overall appearance neat and modern. A 50mm x 50mm rise bracket was also used to achieve the correct roof height and connection point, helping the new patio sit properly against the existing home.

To manage water runoff, a 160mm edge gutter was installed along the patio roofline. This gave the structure a clean finishing edge while helping direct rainwater away from the covered area. A 780mm fibreglass skylight was also included to bring more daylight into the space, reducing the chance of the patio feeling too shaded during the day. The project also included six downlights, giving the client better usability in the evening. This lighting choice made the patio more functional for outdoor dining, entertaining, and general relaxation after sunset, while keeping the ceiling area clean and uncluttered.

Result

The completed gable Colorbond® patio gave the client a stronger, more comfortable outdoor area with a balanced mix of coverage, light, and architectural detail. The Trimdek roof, aluminium framing, Probeam structure, skylight, guttering, and integrated lighting all worked together to create a low-maintenance outdoor space that feels practical without looking overly industrial. With the new patio installed, the client now has a more inviting area for gatherings, quiet outdoor use, and everyday living. The gable roof adds visual character, while the durable Stratco-supplied materials help ensure the structure remains easy to maintain over time.
