A Light-filled Patio Upgrade In This Nar Nar Goon North Backyard

Challenge

In July 2025, a homeowner in Nar Nar Goon North, VIC, contacted Sam Outdoor Living with a clear goal. They wanted to turn their empty backyard corner into a stylish, functional patio space that worked in every season. The outdoor area measured roughly 12 square metres. It needed shelter from the elements and a clean, modern look that matched the rest of the home. Above all, the client wanted a space for relaxing and entertaining, no matter the weather.

Solution

After assessing the space, we designed a custom flat roof patio measuring 6.16 by 1.92 metres. We used high-quality Colorbond® and Stratco materials, chosen for their durability and easy upkeep.

For roofing, we installed Colorbond® Trimdek sheets, which offer a sleek finish and strong weather resistance. Probeam 140x50mm beams supported the structure, paired with a mix of 90x90mm aluminium posts and 75x75mm steel posts to ensure stability and strength. We added 160mm edge gutters to handle rainwater and keep the area dry.

To enhance the space even more, we included a 780mm fibreglass skylight. This addition brings soft natural light into the patio during the day, making it feel open and bright without giving up protection from sun or rain.

Results

The finished patio gave the client exactly what they wanted. They now enjoy a sheltered, comfortable outdoor space that fits their lifestyle year-round. The combination of modern materials, strong structure, and thoughtful lighting made the space feel like a natural extension of the home.

The skylight became one of their favourite features, adding both beauty and practicality. With minimal upkeep required, the space stays clean and functional, no matter the season. The clients now use the patio daily and say it has added real value to their home and lifestyle.
