A Stratco-backed Patio Transformation In Berwick

Challenge

In April 2025, Sam Outdoor Living was approached by a homeowner in Berwick, VIC 3806, with a clear vision: to transform their underutilized backyard into a sleek, functional space that could be enjoyed year-round. With a total area of 27 square meters, the client wanted a solution that not only complemented their home’s architecture but also offered long-term durability with minimal upkeep. It needed to be an inviting environment for both quiet relaxation and lively outdoor entertaining—regardless of the season.

Solutions

Sam Outdoor Living proposed a custom-designed flat roof patio, measuring 7 by 3.9 meters, using exclusively high-quality materials from Stratco—Australia’s trusted name in outdoor building solutions. The structure was carefully engineered not just for aesthetics, but also to perform in the face of the region’s variable climate.

At the heart of this build was Stratco’s Colorbond® Trimdek roofing, a standout feature both visually and structurally. Made from high-tensile steel with a trapezoidal profile, the Trimdek sheet offers superior water drainage and resistance to corrosion. Its contemporary profile suited the client’s modern design preferences, and its Colorbond® finish ensured it would retain its vibrant appearance with minimal maintenance.

Supporting the roof structure were robust Probeam 140x50mm beams, a Stratco signature product known for its strength-to-weight ratio, making it ideal for long spans without the need for intermediate posts. The clean lines of the Probeam added a modern architectural touch while enhancing the open feel of the space.

Aluminum 90x90mm posts provided a durable, rust-resistant support system. Their powder-coated finish not only matched the overall colour scheme but also offered excellent resistance to the elements. Gutter systems were carefully selected to ensure efficient rainwater management, using a combination of VF Gutters (125mm width) and Edge Gutters (160mm)—both designed to integrate seamlessly with the patio’s structure while preventing overflow during heavy rains.

This build was more than just functional—it was a showcase of precision and thoughtful design. The Stratco-supplied materials played a crucial role in achieving the balance between elegance and endurance, creating a space that feels luxurious without being high-maintenance.

Since completion, the client has been thrilled with the transformation.
