Insulated Kitchen Sunroom In A Cobblebank Backyard

Challenge

Our latest client in Cobblebank wanted to expand their living space by adding an outdoor kitchen but faced several challenges. They needed a functional and weather-resistant space that would keep cooking smells and stains out of their main home while ensuring comfort throughout the year. The solution had to seamlessly integrate with the existing home structure and provide proper ventilation, lighting, and insulation for an optimal cooking experience.

Solution

The project was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, we constructed a patio area using a 50mm Cooldek Panel roof, supported by sturdy 150x150mm aluminum posts and a Probeam 140x50mm framework. Edge gutters were installed to ensure efficient water drainage. To enhance comfort, we incorporated a ceiling fan for improved air circulation.

In the second phase, we enclosed the patio with 50mm Coolroom panels, transforming it into a fully insulated kitchen sunroom. The space was designed with a sliding door (2.5x2.2m) and a window (0.5x1.2m) to allow natural light and ventilation. To create a fully functional cooking environment, we installed downlights, spotlights, and a range hood, ensuring both visibility and proper airflow. The enclosed design provided the homeowners with a comfortable and efficient cooking space, shielding them from outdoor elements while maintaining an open and inviting atmosphere.

Results

The completed kitchen sunroom met all the homeowners' requirements, providing a stylish and practical solution for outdoor cooking. The insulated structure effectively contained cooking smells and stains, preserving the cleanliness of the main house. With proper ventilation and lighting, the space remained comfortable and functional for year-round use.
